Sumas Dike Repairs

Project Overview

The City of Abbotsford contacted Jakes Construction as an emergency response to a dike breach on the Sumas River. The team was tasked with closing the 100m long dike breach and continuing to repair several other sections of the dike including a sinkhole at the Barrowtown pump station and bank failure at Atkinson Road.

Jakes also reinstated a temporary bridge that was washed out at McDermott Road, giving several local residents access to their homes. Once the 24/7 emergency work settled, crews also raised 8km of the dike, providing increased protection for future rain events.
