Vedder River Sediment Extraction

Project Overview

As part of the Flood Mitigation Program for the City of Chilliwack and City of Abbotsford, Jakes Construction proactively removed accumulated sediment deposits from the Vedder River in 2014, 2016, 2022, and 2024. We were responsible for the removal of sand and sediment from 14 separate locations along the river.

We were also tasked with constructing access to sediment bars, excavation and sediment removal, hauling of sediment to stockpile areas, and sediment bar restoration. All work was performed outside of the flowing water and in a window that presented the lowest risk of harm to natural habitats. This project was monitored each time by a qualified environmental engineer to ensure the highest standards of compliance were met.
